Gipsy Hill by-election result

The by-election in Gipsy Hill has been concluded with a new councillor elected for the Lambeth council ward.

The poll on Thursday, June 9 saw Labour come first, the Greens second and the Conservative party come third. There were seven candidates in all.

Labour’s Luke Murphy won with 1,220 votes after 27 per cent of eligible residents turned out to vote.

The by-election followed the death of Labour’s Cllr Niranjan Francis who represented Gipsy Hill ward. He passed away on Saturday, April 23 after a battle against cancer.

The final result:

Labour candidate Luke Murphy elected with 1,220 votes

Green candidate Pete Elliott second with 1184 votes

Conservative candidate Leslie Rangarirai Maruziva third with 210 votes

Liberal Democrat candidate Rosa Fenn Jesse fourth with 84 votes

UK Independence Party candidate Elizabeth Jones fifth with 73 votes

Independent candidate Robin Andrew David Lambert sixth with 24 votes

Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition candidate Steve Nally seventh with 19 votes
