Lambeth Parks and spaces get Green Flag Awards

London Borough of Lambeth has successfully retained all eleven of its Green Flag Awards for public parks and open spaces, awarded by Keep Britain Tidy.

Singled out for an award again this year are Archbishops Park, Brockwell Park, Hillside Gardens Park, Kennington Park, Milkwood Park, Myatt’s Fields Park, Ruskin Park, St. Paul’s Churchyard Clapham, St. John’s Church Gardens Waterloo, Streatham Rookery and Vauxhall Park.

Three sites in Lambeth have been given the Green Flag Community Award (GFCA) which is awarded to small community-based and managed projects within open spaces : Agnes Riley Gardens, Eden at St. Paul’s and Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses.
Councillor Jane Edbrooke, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “We have some amazing green and open spaces across Lambeth I’m delighted that we’ve successfully retained all of our Green Flags. To keep these prestigious awards for the second year running, especially given the deep cuts to our budgets, is a tribute to parks’ friends groups and our grounds and tree maintenance contractors, who work so hard all year round.”
“Lambeth’s Cooperative Parks Programme gives everybody who cares about and loves green spaces the means to work together to ensure our parks and open spaces are some of the very best in the country.”
Robert Seear, from Veolia, who manage and maintain Lambeth’s parks and open spaces, said: “This is a fantastic recognition of another year of hard work and dedication from our grounds maintenance team here in Lambeth. Their sterling efforts within all 11 parks deserve this success.”
