Lambeth Mayor Cllr Mark Bennett today donated fresh fruit and vegetables for distribution through the borough’s foodbank network.
The delivery included seasonal essentials such as sprouts, parsnips and clementines, and other groceries including pineapples, plantains, bananas, potatoes, carrots, apples, garlic and onions.
Cllr Bennett made the delivery to the West Norwood branch of his chosen charity The Trussell Trust which runs food banks across Lambeth.
He said: “The Trussell Trust provides food and support to people in a time of crisis. The foodbank’s team gave us a shopping list for their Christmas meals and we supplied everything they wanted.”
The mayor was able to provide the food after holding a successful fundraiser in Brixton on November 29 which featured top Scottish ceilidh dance band License to Ceilidh.
Cllr Bennett said: “I thank everyone who supported the event last month. It means we have been able to spread a little Christmas cheer by helping to feed around 300 of the trust’s customers and their families.”
