Sixty people from Lambeth are heading north of the river to work in top retail and hospitality outlets in the West End.
The jobs are thanks to a partnership between Lambeth Council, local Jobcentres and the Cross River Partnership, a London wide initiative supported by the retailers in Regent Street & Oxford Street.
Meanwhile, 150 local people have started work with TNT, the delivery service and will be pedalling the borough by bike.
Tesco have been recruiting for their new Streatham store that’s due to open later this year. Working collaboratively with Lambeth council and JobcentrePlus, they’re taking on 100 people who’ve been out of work for more than six months and will provide full support and mentoring in a variety of roles in the shop.
Cllr Jackie Meldrum said; “This is fantastic news and really underlines the importance of local employment schemes, where we work with employers, jobcentres and other organisations. Lambeth has lots of opportunities and we need to continue to focus on making sure that local people can make the most of them.”
Lambeth council has recently appointed three key staff who’ll work with employers and jobseekers across the borough.
