Young Lambeth residents are invited to a three day ‘ boot camp’ to boost their job prospects between Tuesday 30 July – Thursday 1 August.
The National Apprenticeship Service “Bootcamp “, funded by the government, gives young people a chance to find out more about finding an apprenticeship – a job while you train. They will meet different businesses including Capita who are organising this free event.
Deputy leader of Lambeth council, Cllr Jackie Meldrum said: ‘. Apprenticeships are jobs where you are paid to be trained. We encourage all Lambeth council suppliers to support initiatives that help get young people a job . Lots of young people will spend the summer holidays wondering what to do and how to get an aprenticeship – this is great starting point.”
Paul Pindar, CEO, Capita, commented: “Over the three days young people from Lambeth will receive plenty of information and support from experts in everything from CV writing tips, to interview preparation. We hope that the boot camp will give those who attend the confidence and skills they need to start pursuing the opportunities they want and set them on the way to a rewarding career.”
Capita has several vacancies for apprentices in IT and customer services and the ‘bootcamp’ programme, taking place at the firm’s head office in Victoria includes:
- Refreshments and lunch
- A site visit to a workplace
- Meeting senior business people, and talking about what it means to work in a certain industry
- Identifying career preferences, and routes to get there
- CV writing workshop
- Job application writing – online and paper application forms and top tips
- Preparing for interviews, communication techniques and presentation skills
A certificate will be awarded at the end to all attendees along with a £30 Amazon voucher
Anyone living in Lambeth aged between 16 an d 18 interested in taking part simply needs to register by emailing Bootcamp2013@capita.co.uk or calling 020 3367 8313.
