The Leader of Lambeth Council, Cllr. Lib Peck has welcomed the news that the Elizabeth House development in Waterloo can go ahead and will not be ‘ called-in’ by the Local Government Secretary, Eric Pickles after all.
Last week, Cllr Peck wrote to Mr Pickles, urging him not to jeopardise the development which could deliver thousands of jobs and homes in the Waterloo area. The scheme was approved by Lambeth Council last year but critics wanted it reconsidered.
Cllr Peck said: ”This is great news for Lambeth and means jobs and homes for local people. The benefits that this development will bring to the area will be another chapter in Lambeth’s success story .
‘It’s a once in a generation chance to make sure that local communities benefit from improved connections, opportunities for jobs and a vastly improved environment to ensure that they can enjoy an area which many feel currently turns its back on them.”
