Lambeth Councillor scoops national award

Thornton ward councilor, Ed Davie, was named Scrutineer of the Year at the prestigious 2013 Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) Awards last night.

Cllr Davie chairs Lambeth’s Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Sub-Committee and has earned a reputation championing vulnerable people who use Lambeth’s health and adult social care services. He’s raised the profile of cases where black mental health service-users have died in police custody and played a key role in building effective relations with health partners and neighbouring boroughs.

Cllr Davie’s recently initiated a ‘Street Detox’ scrutiny commission to see how junk-food shops, exploitative pay-day loan outlets, bookmakers and off licences can be restricted.

Congratulating Cllr. Davie on the award, Lambeth Council Leader Cllr. Lib Peck said,

’Ed makes scrutiny relevant and useful to improving the health and lives of residents and he is focused on using new and existing powers to try and cut demand for expensive public services. Ed’s made a great contribution to the borough and thoroughly deserved to win.’
