Choose new leisure centre’s name

Residents have been invited to help choose a name for Streatham’s new multi-million pound sports and leisure centre.

When completed in late 2013, the development will include a full-size ice rink, modern leisure centre, including two swimming pools, 250 new homes and a Tesco store in Streatham High Road.

But the scheme doesn’t yet have an official name so a three suggestion short list has been drawn up for people to choose from.

The names on the table are Streatham Leisure and Ice Centre; Streatham Ice and Leisure Centre; and Streatham Arena. Imaginative residents alternatively can come up with their own suggestions of up to 35 letters.

Cllr Sally Prentice, cabinet member for Culture and Leisure, said: “This is a fantastically exciting scheme I can’t wait for it to be finished. This centre will become famous across the borough so we want as many people as possible to chip in and help decide what it will be called.”

To have your say tweet your preferred choice and add #streathamvote. Alternatively email caristide@lambeth.gov.uk or write to Claudia Aristide at Phoenix House, 5th Floor, 10 Wandsworth Road, London SW8 2LL by January 31.
