A new regular street market will make its debut in Streatham this weekend.
Streatham Green Artisans’ market will see a fantastic selection of foods, farm produce and crafts on offer on Sunday from 10am to 4pm on Babington Road. There will also be bicycle repairs and delicious hot drinks to keep out the winter cold.
The new market, which has been arranged by Lambeth Council in partnership with market operator London Artisans’ Markets, will become fortnightly from January 6th 2013 onwards.
Cllr Imogen Walker, Lambeth Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: “I’m really excited about this new market and it’s going to be a fantastic addition to Streatham. Street markets like this one can really help to give a boost to town centres, drawing in shoppers and adding to the vibrancy of the town.
“We are determined to do all we can to help and support our town centres so they are attractive place to visit with a wide range of good quality shopping opportunities, and I’m really looking forward to visiting this new street market on Sunday to do some Christmas shopping.”
The decision to introduce an artisan market was taken after discussions with local Streatham businesses and residents. 82% of people who responded to a council consultation said they were in favour of a street market in Streatham.
As part of its “More Jobs” campaign, the council is determined to help support town centres so they remain vibrant and attractive places where people want to visit.
