Lambeth secondary schools record impressive improvements

Secondary schools in Lambeth have recorded some excellent improvements in their latest GCSE results.

La Retraite School in Balham saw the percent of pupils achieving five or more top grade GSCEs, including maths and English, rise by 12 per cent.

The impressive results hike was almost matched by Lilian Baylis School in Vauxhall which saw pupil attainment in the same category rise by 11 per cent and Charles Edward Brooke School in Camberwell by 10 per cent.

Five schools in the borough saw more than 90 per cent of their GSCE pupils achieve at least five GCSEs at grades A* to C in the results which were released yesterday. (Aug23)

They were La Retraite, Bishop Thomas Grant School in Streatham, Dunraven School in Streatham, Norwood School in Norwood and St Martin-in-the Fields High School for Girls in Tulse Hill.

Councillor Rachel Heywood, Cabinet member for Children and Young People, said: “I would like to congratulate all Lambeth’s GCSE students on their successes.

“Their hard work has seen a positive outcome for their schools, themselves and the borough. It is great to see our schools continue to improve and goes to show how fantastic they are.”

The biggest improvement in the rate of pupils getting five or more GSCEs at grades A* to C was seen at Charles Edward Brooke School.

The school’s rate soared from 52 per cent in 2011 to 80 per cent in the latest results.

Staff and pupils at Norwood School were also celebrating yesterday after all its students got five or more GSCEs at grades A* to C.
