Children test out new Brockwell Park playground

A state-of-the-art new playground has been opened in Brockwell Park.

The half million pound Lambeth Council facility was unveiled to youngsters and dignitaries on Thursday (June 1) morning.

The play area, replacing an older one near Arlingford Gate, is one of a number of improvements planned in the park, funded by a £3.5million Heritage Lottery Fund grant and £1m from Lambeth council.

Railings are being replaced, paths re-laid, toilets repaired, ponds improved with new bridges and pagodas as part of the facelift.
An extensive tree planting scheme is already underway.

Councillor Sally Prentice, Lambeth council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and Olympics, said:

“This playground will be another great new facility for families and children to use in the borough.

“It is part of a wider project to dramatically improve facilities at what is already a fantastic park.

“We’re looking forward to seeing children’s reaction as the playground opens for business.”
