Along with the efforts of the gritting vehicles on carriageways and diverted street sweepers, a very high percentage of footways are clear, and there is very little disruption to refuse and recycling services today, with all vehicles leaving the depot with full crews.
Lambeth has recruited over 200 local people as snow wardens, who have been equipped with hi-vis jackets, shovels and supplies of grit to help keep their driveways clear and help their neighbours to keep safe in the bad weather.
One volunteer, Martin Goffe, from Conifer Gardens, SW16, summed up his experience and that of his fellow snow wardens: “It was hard work, but I got some really nice responses from neighbours and passers by. It was very good exercise. Well done, everyone.”
It’s not too late to volunteer to be a snow warden.
