London Youth Games 2012: Do you want to be a member of Team Lambeth?

The successful Team Lambeth 2011 sailing teamBudding sports stars of the future have the chance to represent their borough in this year’s London Youth Games.

Last year, Team Lambeth ruled the waves as the borough’s sailing team won the overall sailing title at the Royal Victoria Docks in Newham, and the search is now on for the young competitors who can repeat that success in sailing and a host of other sports.

The Team Lambeth trials and training sessions have now started and there are lots of sports to choose from, including basketball, football, fencing and sailing to name just a few.

The London Youth Games are a unique season of events involving all 33 London Boroughs and 26 national sporting governing bodies. Last year over 50,000 young people across London were involved in the competition.

The Games are free and open to all young people, aged between seven and 17, living in or going to school in the capital. Last year nearly 1000 young people attended the Lambeth trials many of whom went on to represent Team Lambeth if not in their main sport then definitely in a “second” sport such as indoor rowing, rowing, weightlifting, volleyball, squash, archery and athletics.
