Lambeth Council helps local businesses back on their feet

Lambeth Council has announced a series of drop-in sessions which will provide expert advice to local businesses affected by the recent public disorder.

The Lambeth Business Recovery Surgery workshops will enable local businesses to learn more about a range of services that will help them get back on their feet. This will include advice on business rates relief or help and guidance in filling in a compensation claim.

The first event will be held at Olive Morris House, Brixton Hill, on Thursday, August 25, from 5pm to 7pm.

Lambeth Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Jackie Meldrum, said: “Businesses are at the heart of the local community and economy and we are pulling together to help them get their feet back on the ground. These workshops are about reaching out to local businesses to let them know that we have created a range of specialist support services to help them through this very difficult time.”

The business rates relief is an emergency fund that has been established to help small businesses in particular. Businesses that have suffered hardship will be able to apply for temporary relief from the payment of their business rates. We are keen for as many small businesses affected by the public disorder to apply as soon as possible for this compensation. The deadline for making a compensation claim is approaching and more details are available on the Directgov website or by calling 0845 641 4925.
