Brixton is to be boosted with the news that Brixton Market will be opening every Sunday in the run up to Christmas, Lambeth Council has announced.
Thanks to a special arrangement with market traders, the market will be open from 8am to 4pm on Sundays leading up to Christmas, on the 5th, 12th and 19th of December 2010, offering some great chances for shopping.
There will also be a special Arts and Crafts Market in Tunstall Road every day from the 17th to the 24th December.
The extra trading day has been arranged in order to give more convenience to local people who want to buy groceries and gifts in the run up to Christmas. The council is helping traders by supporting the market on Sunday at no extra charge to long term traders, and by offering pitches at discounted cost on those Sundays for traders who normally use temporary trading permits.
Cllr Lorna Campbell, Cabinet member for Environment, on Lambeth Council, said: “Brixton Market is one of London’s best loved markets and the fact that will it will be open on Sundays before Christmas is great news for shoppers and traders. We want to offer all the support we can to our town centres during these tough economic times and this is an example of our commitment to Brixton and local businesses.”
Lambeth Council operates Brixton market, allocating trading licences through its market office, arranging street cleaning, waste collection, and enforcement.
Brixton Market is normally open at the following times.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday: 8am-6pm
