Today, Tesco formally agreed a massive investment in Streatham which will see the development of a new ice rink, leisure centre, housing complex and a Tesco store.
Cabinet member, Councillor Lib Peck said, “This investment will breathe new life into Streatham; it’s what we have worked long and hard for. We know how important the ice rink is to the area and it has been central to our negotiations. I am very pleased that Tesco are committed to delivering this project and I would like to thank residents for their patience. I know it has been a frustrating wait but I think that this result was worth it.”
The next stage is for the council to formalise the agreement at a council cabinet meeting on 29 March.
Councillor Lib Peck continued; “We welcome Tesco’s commitment to fund a temporary ice rink and the Council is now looking to secure such a facility which is of a high quality and can cater for the full range of ice dancing and sports. This facility will feel like a permanent building, but can be totally dismantled when no longer needed.”
