Lambeth event marks International Women’s Day

In celebration of International Women’s Day Lambeth Council is hosting a free event to celebrate local women and support them to make the changes they want to see.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. This special day, born from women’s fight against oppression and for better working conditions and the right to vote, is marked annually on 8 March with thousands of events held across the world.

Lambeth’s event will take place on Saturday 13 March, between 12 noon and 4pm at Lambeth Town Hall. This will be a fulfilling and inspiring day where local residents come together to be inspired, encouraged and pampered. Refreshments will be provided and all activities are free.

There will be a range of activities, including free therapies, fun demonstrations, a children’s corner, fashion and jewellery, and sewing, as well as employment, education and financial advice, dance and poetry and more.

There will also be a number of motivational seminars with titles such as “how to reorder your life”, “feel the fear-do it anyway” and “how to make your money matter”.

Phyllis Dunipace, leadership champion for the ‘women’ equalities group and Executive Director of Children and Young People Services said: “This event is a wonderful opportunity for us to honour local women. The stage is set for a fantastic day, so I urge all local residents, in particular young women, to come along.

To book your place at a motivational seminar contact the Business Support Team on 020 7926 0030 or businesssupport@lambeth.gov.uk.

Lambeth Town Hall is at Brixton Hill, Brixton, SW2 1RW.
